Written assessments – articles, stories, essays, reports and presentations – take a lot of work. “No kidding?” I hear you think (yes, I really did!).
Writing to a schedule is stressful at the best of times, and when one breaks the process down into all the steps necessary to write a credible, well-researched, well-written piece it seems almost insurmountable! These steps can include: unpacking and analysing the assessment task, researching and compiling a reference list, creating tools such as a mind map and essay plan, drafting the essay (and rewriting it, and maybe giving it another rewrite!), editing the draft, and assembling the finished essay with its reference list.
Tired yet? Have you proofread your work before submitting it?
By letting me proofread or copy edit your work, you can not only rest easy knowing that your spelling, grammar and proofreading will be correct, but you will be able to rest from your assessment for a short time. This pause will enable your mind to disengage from the stress associated with the rush of working to a deadline, and you will be able to look at the corrected copy with fresh eyes. You will be able, during your final edit, to pick up any glaring inconsistencies and factual errors that your mind had been glossing over during the production phase.
I would recommend that you timetable your assessment tasks wisely, in order to give enough time to not only allow a proofread, but to allow your final revision and checking of your references before the submission date.
